In 1694, the Great Sand Drift swallowed up the village of Culbin, on the Moray Firth coast.  While there are scientific and natural explanations for the disappearance of the village, stories, myths and legends about the the people, land and events abound.  They have helped to shroud Culbin in mystery.
WHAT OUR VISITORS SAID:
This is an excellent exhibition. Lots of history. Really good. Thank you.

This website will help you to uncover some of these mysteries, and retell many of the stories of Culbin, the disappeared village, in new and creative ways.   We will explore the environmental, maritime, and coastal aspects as well as the history, heritage, and legends.  This website will be home to our virtual exhibition through which you can explore the story of Culbin.
Culbin: the disappeared village exhibition is currently in the Gallery at Elgin Library.  It was launched on Saturday 19 February 2022.  The launch included  include talks, storytelling sessions, interactive activities for children and adults.  You can read more about it here.  Both on this website and at the physical exhibition in Elgin Library,  archive materials and creative works  will help to bring the stories of Culbin to life and show how it has inspired creative practitioners to make products.
